Another selfie by Daniela before her first brain surgery. The sign tells patients not to eat or drink before the surgery, but has a double meaning that also translates “Please stay sober”. Virchow-Klinik, Berlin, May 2016.

In the part of her image archive covering years 2016 and 2017, Daniela did not make a selection of photos, but she had selected some folders that she apparently wanted to include. This image is from one of those folders.

"Alive" is the last, incomplete work by Daniela Swarowsky who died of breast cancer in the morning of 1 June 2019.
